How did I get started with lino printing?

I started lino printing during lockdown. I figured Netflix was not doing the trick for me. So I found lino as a way to unwind after work, when the kids were asleep. A moment for myself.

I started marking that moment even physically with a candle. When the candle burns, it's just me and my lino cuts.

The year started going fast but Corona was not leaving. I found comfort in creativity. I made my first print, the waves print. The biggest so far, I did not really know what I was doing, but I just did.

A fun fact is that I just drew with a marker on top of the lino, kind of forgetting that you need to mirror the image, so you see? The waves when printed are going back... I embraced this happy mistake, because it gave more meaning to my lino print, it was like Corona, taking us back, back to basics, to our homes, to our center... we may not like it... but it is beyond our control. And we are all in it together. So my print took an unexpected meaning. And that is what I love so much about this art technique.

Lino printing is a technique that works by getting rid of what is not needed in order to reveal a beautiful image. What a beautiful metaphor for life.
